CNN Link to Interview

Thanks to one of SAM's readers - here is the correct link to the CNN interview with SAM & Susie.

Keep checking out SAM's website, too!  Some new pictures.

Tabloid Time

Well, here's that excuse you've been searching for to buy a tabloid!  SAM is in this week's "Globe"!..page 20.  JonBenet's brother, Burke, is on the cover.
SAM and I want to send our best wishes and prayers to all the people and poor animals affected by hurricane Katrina.  It just breaks  our hearts to think of all those suffering animals and frightened families.  If SAM can bring a little comic relief during such a devastating time, then he has done some good.God Bless You all.

Thank you dear SAM fans!

Thank you dear SAM fans who have written such kind comments today in response to the "Debbie" blogs.  She actually phoned me in my own home and REALLY INSULTED me.  That's not the worst though...some cretin wrote that he "wished SAM a slow and painful death" and that "his owner would soon follow".  GEEEEEEEZ!  WEIRDOS and NEGATIVITY!  This comes along with even a modicum of celebrity, I guess..  Don't worry..  SAM is VERY well protected!  Last year there was a sniper loose on Highway 101, north of Santa Barbara where SAM and I spend our weekends.  The highway and the amtrack were closed.  It was eerily quiet.  We were contacted by phone and told to stay indoors...We put sheets up on windows that didn't have blinds.  It was SPOOKY!  Hours and hours went by...we couldn't sleep...Well......SAM eventually had to go outside ..being the well behaved, continent boy he is (although lately I think he needs doggy Depends at night...)..SO..out we went and while SAM peed, Mark stood close by with 12 gauge shot gun cocked!  SAM had better protection than I, who stood by waiting for him to find "the perfect spot".  The sniper  was caught the next day (girl troubles) and although a few cars earlier had been hit, thank God, nobody was hurt.

Message for Debbie

Hi again, Debbie.  Here are some phone numbers if you want to call Santa Barbara Animal Control.  805 963-1513.  SAM's vet is Arthur Posch, Dr MacFarlane or Dr. Cassaus at White's Pet Hospital.  Area code 805  966-1604.  They know how cranky SAM is....just try pulling his leg to trim those "talons'.  SAM is having a fantastic old age and is in good health because of constant love, care and maintanance.  I get bikini waxes and  I think a little leg touching would be a great deal easier.

Hurting SAM????

I had a VERY rude phone call this morning from a "Debbie" who is accusing me of hurting SAM to get him to growl.  I invite her to come and visit SAM and see how cranky he is.  He would have probably been put down if I hadn't had the patience with him in the beginning..he scared me he was so cranky.  All it takes to get him to growl is to very gently squeeze or very gently touch his leg.  He actually bites his own leg MUCH harder than I touch it. Mostly he just growls on his own anyway!  I am NOT touching his legs in any of the snarly photos but I did lightly squueze his leg on camera .   I invite anyone with complaints to come and see how absolutly adored and well cared for this dog is and to touch his leg and see how little it takes to get him snarly.  One time, SAM came SCREAMING into the house dragging his back leg..I dropped the dish I was carrying and thought he had gotten out and been hit by a car or something.  When I caught up with him in the bedroom he was looking back at his back leg and screaming and growling..WELL...there was a post-it note stuck on his rump..he had sat on it on the sofa and it stuck.  The last thing in the world I would do is hurt SAM but it does NOT take much to get him growling//usually he just does it on his own anyway!  Thank Goodness there are people willing to take in cranky, unwanted dogs and give them the doggy dream-life rather than having them put down.  Again, Debbie, I am sorry you feel the way you do but maybe there are better causes to put your energy into than insulting me..like protecting animals that really are being abused or are starving or neglected.  SAM eats filet mignon and home-made meals,  drinks bottled water and sleeps on Egyptian cotton sheets..abuse????  SAM is a VERY LOVED and HAPPY boy!

Busy Busy Busy

SAM now has a dedicated website which is drawing literally MILLIONS of hits (15 million just in the last 10 days).  There are hundreds of T-shirt orders to process and at least 700 emails to look at (sorry if SAM can't respond to everyone :-(  Thanks for everyone's patience.  A dog can only do so much!  If you have purchased a SAM T-shirt, we recommend turning it inside out for washing in cold, then hang to dry.  This should keep his special features crisper for longer.  SAM is having another rough day on the sofa whilst I am at his beck and call.  He is no beast of burden...rather a "BEAST OF LEISURE"!!! (I wouldn't have it any other way.)  SAM's Mom

CNN

Just saw CNN's segment on SAM!  If you get a chance, check it out.  Our Directv guide says that it will be on again tonight (Paula Zahn's show).  On the west coast it's showing again 11:00 - 12:00 midnight.  Earlier it came on at about 50 minutes into the show.  Set your VCRs or DVD recorders!

The segment is over five minutes long and it's pretty darn good.  Lots of reactions from people to SAM's good looks!

Comic Strip

Well, someone has done a comic strip with SAM.  Take a look :-)

SamUgliestDog.com running again

FYI - SAM's website SamUgliestDog.com is back up and running.  Put it on your "Favorites" list.

Catching up on SAM's activities

It's been a very busy week for SAM and me.  (Please don't worry about SAM and all of his adventures - he always sleeps to and from the activities and doesn't get excited once he's there!).  But, being the canine stage mother that I am, I try and let as many people as possible see SAM.  He is so special, and he really does "touch" people in a good way.

We started out the week being "driven" to Beverly Hills where SAM did a segment for Entertainment Tonight/The Insider.  He received a makeover and met lots of fans.  We then did lots of radio interviews including ones for stations in Ohio and Colombia, South America!  SAM was invited to be the "guest of honor" today at a Santa Barbara mixed breed dog show (even though SAM is a purebred).  He received a lifetime pass to the Elings Park, a great park for all kinds of activities including being able to let your dogs go without leashes.  Then it was off to a high school reunion party in the Santa Ynez Valley at the Kalyra Winery ( of "Sideways" fame).  The wine was impeccable (no ___Merlot).  SAM is now home resting peacefully.

Weblog time running out

We hope to keep this weblog alive, but, just like the website, we are way over our bandwidth, and we are having trouble contacting TypePad to see what we can do about it.  If this crashes, just remember to go to the website, SamUgliestDog.com and make it one of your "Favorites"  -  thanks.

Website up and running!

SAM's website, SamUgliestDog.com is again up and running!  It is on a "dedicated" server which means, I hope, that it can handle all of the "hits" it is receiving (5,000,000 in the last 15 days! That's right - five million!!!).

SAM's popular SAM t-shirts and SAM magnets can again be ordered from the website.

The new website is in need of sprucing up, but at least it's back.  We'll be working on it soon.

Fan Site

One of SAM's fans has set up a website in honor of SAM.  Check it out - it answers some questions and gives some links to other interesting places.  SAM-the-Man.net

Website Down - T-Shirts soon

We are in the middle of switching to a dedicated server for our website, SamUgliestDog.com, and therefore the site is down for a little while.

People want to order t-shirts (available at SamUgliestDog.com) and the link to the website is not working because the site is down.  Please be patient.  We're working on it.

Our supply of T-shirts is on order, but with the start of school, it may be a couple of weeks.  Sorry!

SAM'S Mom GOOFED!!

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sorry that some of you missed SAM last night because I gave the incorrect info...SAM was NOT on "Entertainment Tonight", but WAS on "The Insider"...My apologies galore.  It all happened so quickly!  The producer ran the name of the two shows together because they run back to back in most time zones and are produced by the same team.  I misunderstood where SAM would be placed.  They gave SAM a makeover at L.A.'s chic "Chateau Marmutt".... but the blue bow (feebly clinging to 5 hairs) was about the only visible difference.  To me, he is as HANDSOME as ever.  We will try to link up the site so you all can view the clip.  TatorTot (two time winner of the ugliest mixed breed and SAM's little sidekick) is in it as well.  I am putting a new pic up today with a photo of them together.  Enjoy!  SAM's Mom

URGENT - "INSIDER" not Entertainment Tonight

Sooooo sorry!  SAM is on "INSIDER" with Pat O'Brien not on ET  TONIGHT

TV Tonight!!!!

Don't miss Entertainment Tonight tonight!  SAM gets a makeover (if you can believe that!).  We travel through Beverly Hills in luxury and find ourselves at the Century City Plaza Hotel for a photo shoot.  Should be fun.

I checked local listings (L.A. area) and found ET to be on CBS at 7:00 P.M. tonight.  As they say, "Check your local listings."  I think on the East coast it is on at 7:30, but please look for yourself.

And we know, the website is down due to traffic.  We have a dedicated server now and will get it on line ASAP!

Thanks for all of the nice emails and comments.  It's so nice to hear of so many other people who have taken in "unwanted" or "special needs" pets and made loving homes for them.  Thanks to all of you, too!

Miss the MSNBC interview on SAM?

Here is a link to the SAM interview on MSNBC - enjoy!

When you're HOT. you're HOT!

WOW!!  That L.A. Times article has caused a BUZZZZZ.  SAM was on MSNBC national T.V. last night..(they sent a big, black limo...SAM loved the champagne); on K-JUG radio this morning (they will have new photos soon and a link to blog at jugcountry.com.  San Luis Obispo); invited to be on Fox national today (will let you know what time), AND received calls from "Good Morning America" and "Entertainment Tonight"!  Doc Searl's wife, Joyce, e-mailed  this morning to say that SAM's pic was on the "Today Show" and that Katie Couric said "now there's a face for radio!"  SAM is basking in the glow of his celebrity whilst sleeping on his Egyptian cotton sheets under a goose down blanket. Grrzzzzzzzzzz
P.S.  HELP  HELP  Can anyone suggest a web server with more bandwidth that is reasonably priced?  SAM's website has had  3 million hits in two weeks and I think the capacity is at 4,000%..they're not thrilled about this and I feel  that it is time to upgrade.  Any suggestions??  SAM's Mom

SAM on national TV TONIGHT!!

Quick!  Sudden developement!  Because of the popularity of the L.A. Times article which came out this morning, SAM has been invited on national T.V. TONIGHT!  SAM and Susie will appear live on "The Situation", on MSNBC. 11pm Eastern. (8pm Pacific) etc.)

There have been soooooo many hits to the web that it is down....SORRY!  Please try again tomorrow.

Off to primp SAM for his close-up tonight.  A limo will be arriving shortly!

L.A. Times!!

It's in there!!!  A BIG photo of SAM and his Mom, Susie.  It's in the "California" section on page B2!  The date of the paper is Monday, August 15, 2005.  It's great...except for the part mantioning Susie's age!!!  They mention Susie's age, but not Mark's... what's up with that!   We will try to get the picture and the article on the blog soon as possible.
Hey, if you live in the north Santa Barbara County area, Sam will be on the country radio program, Tuesday, August 16, about 8:15a.m.  I don't know the radio call number but how many country stations can there be?!

LA TIMES ARTICLE

We believe there is going to be an article on SAM in Monday's (August 15) Los Angeles Times, California section.  Maybe we can relay some of it to you here.  Let's hope that the article can somehow capture the "essence" of SAM!  Another picture of SAM? - let's hope so!

SAM's Ts going fast!

SAM T-shirts are soooo popular.  Some sizes running low.  T-SHIRTS

"Sam Fan" hot spot tips

If you are loathe to try the prednisone (for drastic cases of itching) "Sam fan" has recommended the following:

1     HOMEOPET HOT SPOTS 15ML BOTTLE
60    CEPHALEXIN 250MG CAP (RAN)
1     OXYDEX SHAMPOO 12OZ BOTTLE
1     RELIEF SHAMPOO 12OZ BOTTLE
1     MERCHANDISE CREDIT

I think they can be ordered at PetMeds
Gotta go wake up Sammie and take him out for a racehorse pee...it's the Lasix!  I know it sounds like a lot of drugs BUT they have ABSOLUTELY extended his life and given him sooooo much relief.  It is  amazing how the vets can really help an older dog feel better.  Sam would have died within 24 hours from congestive heart failure (fluid in the lungs) and I was DEVASTATED  ...BUT..the lasix has saved him!  That was a few months ago and his appetite is back AND he is even trying to make babies with the yellow lab (in heat) next door!!!

Heartbreaking e-mail from Sam fan

Hello-
God bless you for taking care of Sam. I immedaitely
started crying. I had a sister that put one of my dogs
down without me knowing years ago. I'm still not over
it. I had left my 2 min pins at my mom's to care for
them because I could not take them to NYC right away.
My mother did'nt know how to care of them properly.
My dog got a skin problem which needed constant care , so my sister took her to the doctor and
decided to out her down without asking me first. I
would have taken her and treated her. I have a jack
russell now and he has lots of hot spots I'm dealing
with . Everytime I look at him, I start crying
thinking how I could have taken care of her and how
scared she must have been at the end. Gotta go I'm crying.
god bless you, Sam fan

What a TERRIBLE story.  Oh my, that is heart breaking.  I know an adorable min-pin and I am sure your's was a darling.  Some people just don't get the connection that some of us make with our pets..it can be as deep as with a child.  Sam has had some terrible battles with skin hot spots.  I almost thought of putting him down once becuase he would stop and have to scratch with every step..his life was a torture.  I finally begged the vet to give me something that he didn't want to do..a regular, constant dose of prednisone pills.  The vet said it might shorten his life or cause other problrms such as a lower resistance to tumours.  Well..it has been over four years and Sam is pushing 15 with no tumours and he is ITCH FREE.  Insist on trying it becuse even if it did shorten your dog's life, his quality of the time he has left would be soooo much better without torturous itching.  I am a long time sufferer of eczema and it is no fun to be all itchy!
Good Luck to you and your beloved pets, Sam's Mom

Sam's "Tease"

Sam's brand new, limited edition, rare, make your friends jealous (or scream!) Tees have arrived.  Click HERE!

Rodeo Dogs

Hey cowboys and cowgirls, Sam's mom here.  Well...I survived my first ride in the rodeo but as Doc Searl's wife, my friend, Joyce, says, "The cows won"!  My horse went "Hi Ho Silver rear up buckaroo" on me.  I haven't seen her do that since I lifted Sam up to meet her face to face!  Sam should have been invited in to the rodeo but unfortunately.."no dogs allowed".  Instead, he spent the day on the sofa or perhaps a stroll around the yard waiting for my return.
VERY EXCITING NEWS ON NEXT BLOG ENTRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

L.A. Times

Hi everyone.  Sam here.  Sorry I haven't written for a few days.  I have been very busy completing an interview with the L.A. Times.  The photographer took lots of new pictuires of me and my harem so hopefully they will make me look like the stud I am!  My mom, Susie, is getting ready to compete in the Santa Barbara Fiesta Rodeo this Saturday...I have been feeling a little neglected because she is spending waaaaay too much time with that cow pony, Lady Godiva..  At night I am really being a pest for all her attention.  I will be writing soon to tell my tale of  my FABULOUS night at the Beverly Wilshire.  They REALLY know how to treat a dog!!!  Sammie saying "Bone Voyage".  Grrrrrrrrrrr
